Late in the evening Monday nigh when a California Highway Patrol Officer witnessed what he believed to be a motorist under the influence he began pursuit of the vehicle starting in La Mesa.
According to reports California Highway Patrolman Officer Brian Pennings stated that the officer attempted to pull the vehicle over on the eastbound lanes of Interstate 8 near Jackson Drive. The drive managed to exit the freeway and take surface roads in an attempt to elude the officer. One passenger from the vehicle jumped out of the car and took off on foot.
The vehicle ran several stop signs and was driving the wrong way on the streets, when it was west on Broadway in the vicinity of Lemon Grove the officer tried to force the vehicle to a stop, this is when the vehicle ended up behind the officers car and the driver rammed the police car doing extensive damage to both vehicles.
