Widow Waiting For Justice In DUI Accident
March 16, 2008 (Otto Smyth)
According to reports Kara Haney the widow of Adam Lee Haney, husband and volunteer was killed in a mid February accident in which the vehicle that struck his truck is alleged to have been driving under the influence of alcohol.
It is reported that Officer Jim Covello of the California Highway Patrol stated that investigators have reason to believe that the driver Rosario Arreola Lopez who was driving a 2006 Toyota Tundra was nearing speeds of 100. When she came upon the 1985 Toyota pickup truck that Haney was driving in the left lane of Highway 101, Lopez’s truck hit Haney’s pickup in the back. The force of the impact caused Haney’s pickup to be pushed approximately 600 yards where it then rolled over.
Adam Haney died from the injuries sustained in the accident and a passenger in his vehicle sustained moderate injuries.
Lopez was arrested on February 16 for allegedly driving while under the influence of alcohol and has since been charged with causing injury or death and vehicular manslaughter. These charges at the full extent of the law could place her in prison for 16 years and she is currently being held on $220,000 bail.
The widow Kara Haney is concerned knowing the details that this woman has no prior driving under the influence charges and that she was far above the legal limit may receive a what she feels is the proper sentence. She fears the sentence may be two to four years in prison and that is not enough, as her husband can not come back.
