Why Is Arleta Unique In So Many Different Ways?

Map of Arleta CA With Credits GivenArleta is a significant portion of Los Angeles and one with a mix of Anglo and Latino residents. It is one of the neighborhoods that encapsulates many average trends of the City of Angels. Below we're going to take a look at some of the history of the area and how it fits into the wider tapestry of Southern California.

A Different Part of the Greater LA Area - Arleta.

Alreta is in an interesting part of Los Angeles. It has Mission Hills and North Hills to the north, Sun Valley to the east, Pacoima to the northeast, and Panorama City to the west.
The overall area is about four square miles. The area has roughly 35,000 people, including a high percentage of Latinos. However, there is a rich mix of Latinos, Asians, and whites within the community. In fact, over half of the residents born abroad were born in Mexico. The average income of the neighborhood is about average for the city. It's also the home of the fashion company Juicy Couture.

The area is home to Branford Park, which includes an auditorium, two baseball fields, and more. There is also Devonshire Arleta Park. There are five public but no private schools in the community. It's the former home of the Osmond family and the filming of the McFly family in Back to the Future.

There is a branch of the LA Public Library at Granada Hills. Van Nuys Boulevard also travels through the community and borders some other roads and thoroughfares. Did we miss any info? It is also within the overall Los Angeles River flood plain end is in the Northeast part of the city. It has many interesting neighbors including the great Griffith Park and Silver Lake. As a matter of fact, it is one of the parts of the city with one of the highest percentages of residents born abroad.

A Unique Mix Of LA Residents.

This neighborhood has a unique mix of residents, with many immigrants often from Latin America. However, there are many young professionals, off and white, moving into the area. This lends to the gentrification of the overall area and a higher proportion of young whites. Beyond that, there are about 17,000 residents in the area of Atwater Village.
Overall, this makes up about two square miles, one of the smallest parts of the city, but about an average population density. The median income is about average for the city, around $50,000 per capita.

Only about 20% of the residents of the city received higher education and the city is only home to 3 schools. However, it is close to several major thoroughfares. This includes I-5, SR 134, and Interstate 110. These sets of influences will certainly make it one of the more interesting parts of the city for the years to come.

Bel-Air Not - Just the Fresh Prince?

Bel-Air Image of winding road. For people outside of the greater LA area, or Atwater Village perhaps, their only knowledge of Bel-Air is through two things: The Fresh Prince (aka Will Smith of "Concussion" fame) and the Chevrolet. However, there is so much more to the community to offer people. Below we're going to take a look at some of the key parts of one of the swankiest parts of Los Angeles and its history. It's a common destination for families looking for a place to live or to visit. And of course, you may wish to come here too.

Much To Offer For Families And Singles Alike.

You can reach the community off of Beverly Glen Boulevard. It's no surprise that the area is one of the fastest-growing and most in-demand parts of the city. It is also one of the hottest real estate markets in the country. It has a relatively light population density.

The gated community was founded in 1923 and often related to some stereotypes, including an older, wealthier population. Overall, the community only has about 8,000 people. However, its median annual income is over $200,000-- the highest rate in all of Los Angeles County. The proportion of homeowners was also very high-- over 85%. Bel Air is 12 miles west of Downtown and abuts some of the foothills of the Santa Monica Mountains. It is also across Sunset Boulevard and near the main campus of UCLA. In addition, in the middle of the community is the Bel-Air Country Club and the Hotel Bel-Air.

The city is also a major magnet for TV and film. The city is a frequent backdrop for life in LA, especially for more well-off families. It will likely be for the long haul.

All of these create a quaint outlook for the people of the city. The LA Police Department also has a precinct office in the community. Each one makes it a favorite place for families to move to.

It is one of the most popular parts of the city to live and is one that is particularly diverse and growing. It is also part of our long series of Articles regarding many cultural aspects of Los Angeles like Boyle Heights, and their effects on the wider world.

Rapidly Changing over the Last Decades?

Originally this area was very diverse with immigrants from all over the world coming here. Around this time though, the racial picture looked very different. Currently, almost 100% of the area is Latino and there are about a hundred thousand residents.

Unfortunately, only about 5% of all residents have a bachelor's degree which is a low percentage for the city. In addition, there is a high number of residents that do not have a high school diploma. This is despite a number of schools within the district, including both Charter Schools, private schools, and public schools,

Hollywood – Is LA The City of the Movies?

Hollywood, by now, is something of a bit of a legend. It's a major part of the greater Los Angeles area, to be sure. It's also the capital of the film industry. From a sleepy suburb of the city in the early 20th Century, it only grew and grew. So unlike Encino today, by the middle of the 1900s, it was a major center of culture and money all its own.
It's the home to many film studios, including the big five. Many careers have been built and destroyed in and around Hollywood. Beyond the glitz and tinsel, it is also a living, breathing place that people live in and make their way.
Below we'll take a look at several key factors about the city and why you should consider visiting or settling down here.

More than Just the LA Fame.

Timeout has a good list of some of the major attractions people should visit while in Tinseltown. On top of just about everyone's list is the famous Hollywood sign, which originally read Hollywoodland. Created in 1923, it was meant to only last for about 18 months but is still going strong. Also is the Hollywood Bowl, a major outdoor amphitheater which is a major attraction all its own.

Created in 1922, the venue boasts 18,000 seats. Beyond that is the Sunset Ranch for someone looking to spend the day on horseback. A trip to the film industry wouldn't be complete without a pilgrimage to the Chinese Theater and the surrounding Walk of Fame.

The Dolby Theater might have changed its name, but it remains one of the top attractions for visitors. It has 3,400 seats and is a fan favorite, especially since the Academy Awards plans to host there until at least 2033.

North Hollywood shares more than just a name with its more famous cousin. It lies in the eastern part of the San Fernando Valley and is a major part of the City of Los Angeles. It is home to a major art district, the NoHo, as well as the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.

This is one of the older parts of the city, dating back to the late 19th Century and called Toluca and Lankershim before finally being renamed North Hollywood in 1927. Below we're going to break down some parts of the community's history and features.

Just To The North Of So Much.

Overall, this part of the city has about 90,000 residents within about six square miles. It is in line with the average population density of the City of Los Angeles. It is heavily diverse, being over half Latino and about a quarter white. The area is also home to a major shootout in 1997.

Panorama City – Not Just Another Part Of Los Angeles.

Panorama City is a part of the Los Angeles locale just north of Downtown. It is largely known for its higher population and for its relatively young age. As a matter of fact, over half of the population of the area was born abroad - higher than the city as a whole. It was originally famous for being one of the first planned communities in the area after the Second World War. Below we will list a number of major parts of the city and a portion of its history as we continue our look through the greater LA area.

The City That Has The Name For A Reason?

The city was originally planned by developer Fritz Burns and famous industrialist Henry J. Kaiser. The two created a new company to create prefab homes for veterans returning from the conflict. Many of the homes were bought through FHA loans or through the GI Bill. The community was slowly integrated in the 1960s and 1970s after there was a race quota for blacks and non-Christians.

It was also right next door to the largest GM assembly plant. The population is heavily Latino today-- about 70%. The total population is about 70,000 residents and the median annual income is about average for the city. In addition, the area is home to the Panorama Recreation Center. The city has an interesting set of neighbors, with Mission Hills to the north.

To the northeast is Arleta. To the east is Sun Valley. To the southeast is Valley Glen and to the west is North Hills. Did you find any part of this article very interesting? Park Mesa - An Area With Quite A Lot Of Work Left To Do.

Park Mesa Heights is yet another neighborhood within Los Angeles that we are going to profile. This is another article within our wider look at Los Angeles, its neighborhoods, its history, and its culture. Park Mesa Heights like Northeast Los Angeles, is yet another one, falling near South Los Angeles and near Ladera Heights.

Not Yet A Growing Area: Crime Still A Major Concern.

This part of South Central LA is a place in which there may be significant gentrification of the city. Historically a more working-class area, there are many new potential home buyers building land or old homes to fix them up. On top of that, there is still ample crime within the area. This includes game Warfare and many other concerns.
This may further slow down the efforts to improve the area. However, it might not happen. Some immigrant families have moved into the area and are rapidly changing the Dynamics of the area.

This area has not seen a major drop in crime, and he's in almost catastrophic Lilo number of college graduates, about 8%. This is well below the city's average. On top of that, it seems as though there is not as much effort from City Hall to fix this part of the city, and will likely be one of the last areas to gentrify, if ever.

We certainly, hope that you enjoyed this take on and another portion of Los Angeles. We enjoyed writing these histories and stories about the many neighborhoods of the city and their effects on the broader culture and other aspects of Los Angeles. The Playa del Rey comes from the Spanish name the Kings Beach. If you had a chance to visit here, you certainly understand why and how it got that name. It is a major beachfront community in the city of Los Angeles. It lies on the west side of the city and is one of the fastest-growing parts of Los Angeles.

A Former Surf Capital - Playa del Rey.

This Coastal neighborhood is known for its Rolling Hills and its amazing Beach. The Pacific Ocean abuts the entire Community to the West, as well as some other neighborhoods to other directions.

LAX lies to the South. This area became very popular after the First World War and one of the major surfing areas of the 1950s and 1960s. However, much of the surf has left mainly due to the significant rocks put in place to prevent beach erosion. The population is relatively small only about 10,000. However, the median income is very high, well above the average for the city. About three-quarters of the people are white with a significant Asian and Latino population. However much of this area is mainly residential, and not commercial at all.

There are some area schools, and this area was once home to Phil Jackson as well as the actor Sam Elliott. All of these factors add up to an area that is popular but not among the most popular in the entire metro area. It is rapidly growing due to its position, though, and will likely continue growing well into the near future.

Business Development For The City via Warner Center.

The area was named for Harry Warner, one of the Warner brothers. He owned the land that much of the development sits upon.

Warner Center is a major part of the business development of Los Angeles. It is within the Woodland Hills neighborhood of the city. The original idea behind the district started in the 1960s and had blossomed since. The idea was to relieve traffic within the city, although that one portion has yet to be realized.

However, this part of the city is a key one within a wider part of the San Fernando Valley. Below we'll talk about some of the key features and history of Warner Center as part of our overall view of Los Angeles.

    A Planned Center Of Commerce?

The area was named for Harry Warner, one of the Warner brothers. He owned the land that much of the development sits upon. Much of the area became different parts of the development complex, often developed piecemeal. One example of that is Topanga Plaza, which opened in 1964-- the first shopping mall in California. Also, there is a mix of commercial and industrial buildings and companies on the site. There is also a plan in place-- the Warner Center 2035 Plan to create a new 14 million square feet of development, 20,000 new residential units, and 49,000 jobs.

The city's metro also flows through the area, including the Orange Line. There is a consideration for future development. The area may see 40 story skyscrapers if City Planner Ken Bernstein has his vision used. There are many potential futures for this part of the city, and many are looking very bright. How did you like our overview of this part of LA. We hope that you continue reading our ongoing series of articles on the history and features of the greater Los Angeles area.
