Arleta is a significant portion of Los Angeles and one with a mix of Anglo and Latino residents. It is one of the neighborhoods that encapsulates many average trends of the City of Angels. Below we will cover LA area history, including our broader Southern California tapestry.
Alreta remains situated in an exciting part of Los Angeles with Mission Hills and North Hills to the north, Sun Valley to the east, Pacoima to the northeast, and Panorama City to its west. The general area consists of around four square miles with roughly 35,000 people, including high percentages of Latinos with richly mixed racial swaths of Latinos, Asians, and whites. Within the community here, over half of its residents were born abroad from Mexico with average incomes. This grand city also remains home to Juicy Couture, the famous fashion company.
The area is home to Branford Park, which includes an auditorium, two baseball fields, and more. There is also Devonshire Arleta Park. There are five public but no private schools in the community. It’s the Osmond family’s former home and the McFly family’s filming in Back to the Future.
There is a branch of the LA Public Library at Granada Hills. Van Nuys Boulevard also travels through the community and borders some other roads and thoroughfares. Did we miss any info? Atwater Village is not just another part of Los Angeles. The Village presents significant diverse neighborhoods within the Los Angeles River flood straight end in the town’s Northeast part. Portions include many exciting neighbors like Griffith Park and Silver Lake. This city’s other feature includes having high foreign-born percentages of residents.
This neighborhood has a unique mix of residents, with many immigrants often from Latin America. However, there are many young professionals, off and white, moving into the area. Broad gentrification resulted, with a higher proportion of young whites. Beyond that, there are about 17,000 residents in the area of Atwater Village.
Overall, this makes up about two square miles, one of the smallest parts of the city, but about an average population density. The median income is about average for the city, around $50,000 per capita.
Only about 20% of the city residents received higher education, and the city is only home to 3 schools. However, it is close to several major thoroughfares, including I-5, SR 134, and Interstate 110. These sets of influences will undoubtedly make it one of the more exciting parts of the city for the years to come.
We just finished up yet another article on the long history of Los Angeles and many unique aspects making our city a fun place to work and live. We hope you enjoyed this article, and if you have any feedback, please don’t hesitate to send us an email. We appreciate reading information from our fans.
For people outside of the greater LA area or Atwater Village, perhaps, their only knowledge of Bel-Air is through two things: The Fresh Prince (aka Will Smith of “Concussion” fame) Chevrolet. However, there is so much more to the community to offer people. Below we will look critically inside some swanky parts of Los Angeles’ history about this familiar destination city for visiting or relocating families and tourists.
You can reach the community off of Beverly Glen Boulevard. It’s no surprise that the area is one of the fastest-growing and most in-demand parts of the city. This city has one of the hottest real estate markets countrywide with its relatively light population density.
This gated community location founded in 1923 remains associated with stereotypes, including older, wealthier white populations. Overall, the community has about 8,000 people with a median annual income of over $200,000– the highest rate in all of Los Angeles County. The proportion of homeowners remains very high– over 85%. Bel Air is 12 miles west of Downtown, abutting some foothills alongside Santa Monica’s Mountains, running across Sunset Boulevard near UCLA’s main campus. Middle Bel-Air’scCountry Club community and the Hotel Bel-Air remain powerful magnets for frequent TV and film backdrops about life in LA, especially relating with more well-off families, and will likely continue with this pattern the long haul. Did we miss anything reviewing of Bel-Air? Let us know by sending us an email; we’d love to hear your thoughts.

Here we’re going to take a look at one of the major roads of the greater Los Angeles area and a community of the same name. Beverly Glenn is often synonymous with the same name’s boulevard, especially for drivers traveling through some of the most superior parts of the greater LA area in the spirit of Bel-Air among the hottest real estate markets in California right now. It’s a popular place to live in and commute to the city proper. Many attractions lead people to the area, and we’re going to take a look at some of them.
Beverly Glen is one of Los Angeles’s suburbs and falls upon the Beverly Glen Boulevard, a critical conduit between Century City and the San Fernando Valley. It includes the friendly Briarwood Park at Almaden Court. Also, the town puts on a street fair each June and runs a farmer’s market. The community is within the LA Unified School District. All of these create a quaint outlook for the people of the city. The LA Police Department also has a precinct office in the community. Each one makes it a favorite place for families relocating.
Beverly Glen Boulevard is one of the five significant thoroughfares that connects West LA with the San Fernando Valley. It travels along many of the city’s most excellent parts, including intersections with Sunset Boulevard near UCLA. It also passes neighborhoods such as Bel Air and the Harvard-Westlake School, which are the wealthiest city. It is also a common workaround for drivers trying to avoid the traffic of the 405.

Boyle Heights is yet another significant portion of Los Angeles, but not like Beverly Glenn. It is a considerable neighborhood east of downtown and has almost 100,000 people within it. It is one of the most popular parts of the city to live in and is extraordinarily diverse and growing. It is also part of our long series of Articles regarding many cultural aspects of Los Angeles like Boyle Heights, and their effects in the broader world.
Originally this area was very diverse, with immigrants from all over the world coming here. Around this time, though, the racial picture looked very different. Currently, almost 100% of the area is Latino, and there are about a hundred thousand residents. Unfortunately, only about 5% of all residents have a bachelor’s degree, which is a low percentage for the city. Also, high numbers of residents have no high school diploma despite some schools within the district, being Charter Schools, private schools, and public schools.
Many significant attractions exist here, including some Estrada court’s murals, Hazard Park, and Hollenbeck Park. Prominent celebrity figures residing here have included Donald Sterling, who owned the Los Angeles Clippers. Many notable films were shot here, including the 2007 movie Under the Same Moon. We examined a neighborhood, although, throughout our series, we look at several different features and cultural aspects of the city. We hope you enjoyed our expose and stand ready for your questions, looking forward to seeing your comments.

Of course, the most famous resident of the 1990s was OJ Simpson, a pro football player, and actor on trial for murdering his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman at Simpson’s house. A jury acquitted Simpson murder in what was the largest trial of our century. Brentwood might be most famous for the OJ Simpson murder case, but many more attractions exist for residents and visitors. At the edge of the western part of Los Angeles lies central aspects of the city’s history, including hosting the pentathlon in the 1932 Summer Olympics and a major fire in 1961. Famous Hollywood types consider this place to be a hideaway for many. Please continue reading our overall look into Greater Los Angeles’ areas.
Brentwood was originally a ranch but became a major center for people moving into the LA areas. This city hosted part of the Olympics in 1932, just years after being annexed into LA circa 1916. Many sporting clubs exist here, including the Brentwood Country Club. The area has a relatively low population and density of just about 35,000, or 2,000 people per square mile. Compared to other towns, Brentwood remains relatively large– about 15 square miles. Its racial makeup stays predominantly white and Asian. Brentwood remains home to some actors and actresses, including Joan Crawford, Lea Michele, Marilyn Monroe, and even President Ronald Reagan— who lived in the city before becoming President. Another Governor, Arnold Schwarzenegger, lived here as well.

Chinatown is one of the most popular and exciting parts of Los Angeles near Central LA also has one of the oldest ethnic neighborhoods in the city and one of the best and most well-known. It grew to prominence in the 1930s and continued to grow and is now a significant portion of the tourist traffic that heads in and out of the city. It is also another article in our long list of Los Angeles regions covering city culture, like Encino.
The original Chinatown developed in the 1800s but took off after a new commercial Center opened in the 1930s. Initially, this portion was known as China City. Some of the original buildings came from a 1937 Hollywood film called The Good Earth. However, in 1949 much of the area burnt down due to arson. Much of what is today Chinatown was once Little Italy. We see significant changes in store for this part of the city, especially over the next generation. We hope that you enjoyed this article about this part of Los Angeles bout the city’s long history.
This part of the city is in Northeast Los Angeles and named after a rock outcropping that looks like an eagle with its wings outstretched. This and part attracted many young people looking to live in and around the city but not wanting to live downtown.
Also, this area became a crucial part of the hippie movement in the 1960s. It also served as a significant part of film-making in the Greater Los Angeles area. Despite having just 34,000 people, Eagle Rock has a disproportionate influence on Los Angeles county.

Hollywood, by now, is something of a bit of a legend. It’s a major part of the greater Los Angeles area, to be sure. It’s also the capital of the film industry. From a sleepy suburb of the city in the early 20th Century, it only grew and grew. So unlike Encino today, by the middle of the 1900s, it was a major center of culture and money all its own. It’s the home to many film studios, including the big five. Many careers have been built and destroyed in and around Hollywood. Beyond the glitz and tinsel, it is also a living, breathing place where people live and make their way. Below, we’ll look at several key factors about the city and why you should consider visiting or settling down here.
Timeout has a good list of some of the major attractions people should visit while in Tinseltown. On top of just about everyone’s list is the famous Hollywood sign, which originally read Hollywoodland. Created in 1923, Hollywood’s sign was fabricated for 18 months of existence but still displays strongly into 2021. The Hollywood Bowl remains a major outdoor amphitheater and a major attraction itself.
Created in 1922, the venue boasts 18,000 seats. Beyond that is the Sunset Ranch for someone looking to spend the day on horseback. A trip to the film industry wouldn’t be complete without a pilgrimage to the Chinese Theater and the surrounding Walk of Fame. The Dolby Theater might have changed its name, but it remains one of the top attractions for visitors. It has 3,400 seats and is a fan favorite, especially since the Academy Awards plans to host there until at least 2033.

Koreatown is one of the fastest-growing parts of Los Angeles. Like Hollywood, it is also one that is growing in stature in the city. Koreatown is a neighborhood within the central part of the city around 8th Street. Koreans began coming to the city in larger and larger numbers starting in the 1960s. Many Koreans within the city revitalized the area, creating a center of LA city immigrant culture.
As there was a large influx of Korean immigrants, the economy of the area certainly change. Many Korean Americans believe that the 1992 race riots within the city also change their city aspects. However, despite the name, Koreatown has a Latino majority. The Korean part of the city also led to a major offspring of different food types, including Korean BBQ. There are also Korean-inspired taco trucks that travel across the city.
Overall, this area has a population of about 125,000 in a tiny to .7 square mile neighborhood. This leaves a total average density of nearly 43,000, the highest in all of Los Angeles and Los Angeles County cities as a whole. Koreatown is diverse, with about half of its population being Latino, 33% Asian, and the remainder being white, black, and other. It is surrounded by the Angeles National Forest, Little Tujunga Canyon, Big Tujunga Canyon, Hansen Dam, Kagel Canyon, and even a part of the Verdugo Mountains. The area is largely middle class and ethnically diverse. It is also a part of our ongoing series about the history of Los Angeles.
Lake View Terrace is famous for several reasons, one of the largest areas of the area’s natural beauty. One of the others is that it was the place where police beat Rodney King. The subsequent trial and acquittal of police officers led to the major 1992 race riots.
It is also the setting of the movie Lakeview Terrace, which starred Samuel L. Jackson. The area is home to the Discovery Cub area within the Hansen Dam Recreation Center. The LA Times described it as a “hub for outdoor recreation.” It is home to some hiking and sports facilities.

North Hollywood shares more than just a name with its more famous cousin. It lies in the San Fernando Valley’s eastern part and is a major part of the City of Los Angeles. It is home to a major art district, the NoHo, and the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.
This is one of the city’s older parts, dating back to the late 19th Century and called Toluca and Lankershim before finally being renamed North Hollywood in 1927. Below we’re going to break down some parts of the community’s history and features.
Overall, this part of the city has about 90,000 residents within about six square miles. It is in line with the average population density of the City of Los Angeles. It is heavily diverse, being over half Latino and about a quarter white. The area is also home to a major shootout in 1997.
This is one of the most famous bank robbery instances globally, with two heavily armed and armored bank robbers breaking into a bank and leading police on a major foot chase.
The two robbers were killed, and 12 police officers and eight civilians were injured. Over 2,000 rounds of ammo were expended in the firefight. This developed a major debate over police armor and the relative arming and armoring of potential bank robbers.
The area is quickly developing after the major North Hollywood Development District. It is also connected to the city in many ways, including the subway system. The community is also home to 11 public schools and ten private schools.

Panorama City is a part of the Los Angeles locale just north of Downtown. It is largely known for its higher population and its relatively young age. As a matter of fact, over half of the area’s population was born abroad – higher than the city as a whole. It was originally famous for being one of the first planned communities in the area after the Second World War. Below we will list several major parts of the city and a portion of its history as we continue our look through the greater LA area.
The city was originally planned by developer Fritz Burns and famous industrialist Henry J. Kaiser. The two created a new company to create prefab homes for veterans returning from the conflict. Many of the homes were bought through FHA loans or the GI Bill. The community was slowly integrated with the 1960s and 1970s after a race quota for blacks and non-Christians.
It was also right next door to the largest GM assembly plant. The population is heavily Latino today– about 70%. The total population is about 70,000 residents, and the median annual income is about average for the city. Also, the area is home to the Panorama Recreation Center. The city has an interesting set of neighbors, with Mission Hills to the north.
To the northeast is Arleta. To the east is Sun Valley. To the southeast is Valley Glen and to the west is North Hills. Did you find any part of this article exciting? Park Mesa Heights is yet another neighborhood within Los Angeles that we are going to profile. This article is within our wider look at Los Angeles, its neighborhoods, history, and culture. As Northeast Los Angeles, Park Mesa Heights falls near South Los Angeles and Ladera Heights.
This part of South Central LA is a place where there may be significant gentrification of the city. Historically a more working-class area, there are many new potential home buyers building land or old homes to fix them up. On top of that, there is still ample crime within the area. This includes game Warfare and many other concerns.
This may further slow down the efforts to improve the area. However, it might not happen. Some immigrant families have moved into the area and are rapidly changing the Dynamics of the area.
This area has not seen a major drop in crime, and he’s in an almost catastrophic Lilo number of college graduates, about 8%. This is well below the city’s average. On top of that, it seems as though there is not as much effort from City Hall to fix this part of the city, and it will likely be one of the last areas to gentrify, if ever.
We certainly, hope that you enjoyed this take on and another portion of Los Angeles. We enjoyed writing these histories and stories about the city’s many neighborhoods and their effects on the broader culture and other aspects of Los Angeles. If you have any questions or would like to get involved, please send us an email. We appreciate it.

The Playa del Rey comes from the Spanish name the Kings Beach. If you had a chance to visit here, you certainly understand why and how it got that name. It is a major beachfront community in the city of Los Angeles. It lies on the west side of the city and is one of the fastest-growing parts of Los Angeles.
This Coastal neighborhood is known for its Rolling Hills and its amazing Beach. The Pacific Ocean abuts the entire Community to the West and some other neighborhoods, to other directions.
LAX lies to the South. This area became very popular after the First World War and one of the major surfing areas of the 1950s and 1960s. However, much of the surf has left mainly due to the significant rocks to prevent beach erosion. The population is relatively small, only about 10,000. However, the median income is very high, well above the average for the city. About three-quarters of the people are white, with a significant Asian and Latino population. However, much of this area is mainly residential and not commercial at all.
There are some area schools, and this area was once home to Phil Jackson and the actor Sam Elliott. These factors add up to an area that is popular but not among the most popular in the entire metro area. It is rapidly growing due to its position, though, and will likely continue growing well into the near future.
We hope you enjoyed this article on Los Angeles’s history and one of its major neighborhoods. If you have any questions or would like to give us any feedback, please send us an email or drop us a line.

Its center was just west of Reseda Boulevard. Overall, there are about 75,000 people in the community.

Yes. Sylmar is one of the oldest portions of the City of Angels. Initially settled by the Spanish, it has a long and fascinating history, mostly due to its geography. It was a part of the San Fernando Mission’s founders and became a significant center for olives in Southern California. It is a center for those looking for a health retreat as well as young families.
Sylmar is a growing part of the greater Los Angeles area, with its population growing from just 3,500 in 1940. There was a wave of lower-income people and immigrant families to the area at the turn of the last century. At this point, about 90,000 people are living there– almost double what it was in 1980. The community has shifted in its ethnic background, as well, with a majority of Latinos. There is a high proportion of Mexican-born immigrants to the area.
The area is perhaps most famous for its olive trade. There was a wave of olive growing after the 1890s. It was one of the largest olive producing regions in the whole state. At one point, it was the largest olive grove in the world.
It is also home to several significant earthquakes, including the 1971 San Fernando earthquake, which shook at a 6.5 magnitude. There was also a methane gas explosion at the site in 1971, four months after the earthquake. There were also earthquakes in 1994 and major wildfires in 2008.
The community is also home to the Olive View UCLA Medical Center and a juvenile hall for youthful offenders. There were several escapes. What did we miss from our overview? Do you have anything to add? Send us an email with any info or recommendations.

First is the name itself, which comes directly from Tarzan. Of course, this is because of the site of a former ranch owned by Edgar Rice Burroughs, the author of the iconic story. Tarzana was also home to several other major figures. This included the LA Times founder, Harrison Gray Otis– who owned 550 acres at the community center.
The community is a smaller part of Los Angeles, just under 9 square miles. In fact, it also has just about 40,000 people, making it one of the least populated parts of the city. It has a very low population density relative to LA as a whole, about 4,000 per square mile. It is also relatively famous for its high number of divorced men and women and military veterans. The per capita income is one of the highest parts of the city.
In fact, it is also home to some of the more famous figures in the city, including Jamie Foxx, Dwight Howard, Jon Lovitz, and Selena Gomez. It is also home to Caballero Canyon, which offers amazing views of the San Fernando Valley.
The city is also a magnet for more attention from Hollywood. One location was a part of the HBO show Six Feet Under. Two seasons of the Bad Girls Club were filmed in the area. Besides, parts of A& E’s show Intervention take place at treatment centers in the community.

When contrasted with Tarzana, Universal City is one of the most recognizable parts of the Greater Los Angeles area. It is about two thirds outside of the city itself and about one third within it. It makes up the area in and around the studios of Universal Pictures. This is part of our ongoing series on the history and culture of Los Angeles and the surrounding areas. And perhaps there is no better part of profiling and combining the history of the area and movies other than Universal City and its areas.
This includes many scenic areas, including the Universal CityWalk, which is a shopping and entertainment center. It also contains 10 Universal City Plaza, a 36-floor office building for its end for NBC. This area is a primary Center for Hollywood and everything about TV and movies. Many different films, as well as useful programs, are filmed or designed here. It is also one of the most popular tourist areas of the city, with people from within Los Angeles and outside visiting every year. On top of this history of this area of the town includes many portions of film-making growth.

The next step in our list of articles on the long history and culture of Los Angeles is Valley Village, located in the city’s Southeastern part. It is in the San Fernando Valley and is one of the most exciting parts of the city.
This area was originally part of North Hollywood but broke off in 1990. Upscale residences are the primary makeup, including some rented units. Many types of people represent significant challenges for the future of the city. This area is about 2/3 white and about 20% Latino. The household income here averages about 55,000.
Also, there is a total population of about 24,000 people within about two square miles, making the average per square mile population approximately 12,000 warm bodies. However, there are many available schools, including North Hollywood Senior High School.
There are also some parks, including the Valley Village Park. There is also the home that Marilyn Monroe lived in between 1944 and 1945 when she was still Norma Jean. All of these combined create a unique part of the town. Even other aspects of this part of Los Angeles are slightly different from the wider City.
This includes the Los Angeles City Planning Commission’s recommendation that there should be a three-story limit to any buildings’ height. Many residents do not want more massive apartment complexes, which also creates a very different picture of the community’s future.

The area was named for Harry Warner, one of the Warner brothers. He owned the land that much of the development sits upon.
Warner Center is a major part of the business development of Los Angeles. It is within the Woodland Hills neighborhood of the city. The original idea behind the district started in the 1960s and had blossomed since. The idea was to relieve traffic within the city, although that one portion has yet to be realized.
However, this part of the city is a key one within a wider part of the San Fernando Valley. Below we’ll talk about some of the key features and history of Warner Center as part of our overall view of Los Angeles.
The area was named for Harry Warner, one of the Warner brothers. He owned the land that much of the development sits upon. Much of the area became different parts of the development complex, often developed piecemeal. One example of that is Topanga Plaza, which opened in 1964– the first shopping mall in California. Also, there is a mix of commercial and industrial buildings and companies on the site. There is also a plan in place– the Warner Center 2035 Plan to create a new 14 million square feet of development, 20,000 new residential units, and 49,000 jobs.
The city’s metro also flows through the area, including the Orange Line. There is a consideration for future development. The area may see 40 story skyscrapers if City Planner Ken Bernstein has his vision used. There are many potential futures for this part of the city, and many are looking very bright. West Hills is a bit of a combination of sorts, acting as a residential and commercial area within the City of Los Angeles in the western part of the San Fernando Valley. A smaller portion here remains an integral part of the overall fabric of Los Angeles and the wider Los Angeles county and its history. This is part of our overall article series on the different parts of LA.
Originally founded as Owensmouth in 1912, then Canoga Park, the area was renamed West Hills in 1987. It takes up about 9 square miles and has a relatively low population of about 45,000. The population density is also on the low side compared to the rest of the city, about 4,000 per square miles. The city is so famous in part to its position on both the Bell and Dayton Creeks. This allows ample freshwater and also the headwaters of the Los Angeles River. The portion of Los Angeles is home to many key landmarks, including the Shadow Ranch Ranch House and Park.
Other parks include the El Escorpion Park near the peak and the Bell Canyon Park. Many people visit the hills at the Upper Las Virgenes Canyon. There are several neighborhood parks and the Peppergate Ranch. The community is also home to seven public schools, one charter school, and seven private schools.
