Is Griffith Park One of the Most Iconic Parts of Los Angeles?

Griffith Park is among the most recognizable parts of the city of Los Angeles. It is in the Los Feliz neighborhood of the town and covers over 4300 Acres. It is one of the largest urban parks in the entire country. This makes it also the second-largest city park in the whole State of California.

The park was created in 1896 and boasts about 10 million visitors every single year. The original part of the park was owned by Griffith J Griffith who donated much of the land. Despite his bad reputation after shooting his wife, Griffith wound up funding much of the expansion of the park.

So Much More Than You Might Expect From LA.

This happened much after his death in 1919. This includes a major Amphitheater, called the Greek Theater which was completed in 1930, and the Griffith Observatory, completed in 1935. Besides, his original gift also allowed the city to expand and purchase other plots of land. Other expansions include over four hundred acres donated by the Sherman company. Unfortunately, this area also was a part of the internment camps for Japanese-Americans.

This is one of the most popular parts of the city and also was a film set for DW Griffith's major movie Birth of a Nation in 1915. Other films, including flare-up featuring Raquel Welch, was also shot in the park. The observatory is perhaps the most recognizable part of the park and attracts many residents and visitors each year. It is one of the most famous observatories in the country. The Hollywood Sign is likely the Most Recognizable Part of the City of LA.

The Hollywood sign is the number one most recognized part of the city of Los Angeles. Upon the Hollywood Hills, here is a significant icon of American culture, as well as filmmaking. The sign itself has a long history, surprisingly about a century-long and is instantly known across the United States. It is yet another one of our articles and our ongoing series on the history of Los Angeles

So Famous and Part of the Fabric of LA.

The original sign, created in 1923 spelled Hollywoodland initially. Unfortunately, today it only spells out Hollywood as the last four letters fell off. The original letters are each spelled out in 44 ft tall white capital letters. The overall structure is about 100 yards long. It was initially intended as an advertisement for local real estate development but remained up. Unfortunately, it was also the site of the 1932 suicide of actress Peg Entwhistle.

It is seen in all sorts of movies and other features of Los Angeles. Much of the sign fell after deterioration. However, it was rebuilt several times including in the 1940s and the 1970s. It is now fully repaired end was primarily funded through some private donations. The new letters are made of steel supported by steel columns and intended to last forever. It remains a significant sign of the filmmaking industry and is a famous site for actors and more.

We hope that you enjoyed this article in the history of the Hollywood sign and its wider impact on the city of Los Angeles. It is part of our overall feature on the course of the city and the impact of its culture on the United States and beyond. Little Armenia – Home to Many That Escaped The Turkish/Islamo Genocide.

Little Armenia is one of the most culturally rich parts of Los Angeles. It is a portion of Hollywood and home to many people of Armenian descent. Much of the area is in East Hollywood. This is also a portion of our long series of articles about the history of Los Angeles and its different neighborhoods like Leimert Park.

A Town That Remains Diverse In A Different Way.

Unfortunately, much of the history of why there are so many Armenians in the neighborhood is an unhappy one. It often leads back to the Armenian Genocide of the 1910s and 1920s in the former Ottoman Empire. Many Armenians fled from the massacres to take refuge and survive the challenges. Similarly, Koreatown is filled with refugees of the Korean conflict.

These Armenians made up a large proportion of the city, as well as many of the most successful merchants and business owners in the town. On top of this, many Armenians would become involved in different aspects of the history of Los Angeles. This includes bringing in a rich food tradition to the area and allowing for a vast expansion of culture within the city. Armenian Americans make up a significant portion of the most successful parts of the city and its population.

His daughters, the Kardashians, are an important fixture within reality television. And even Kim Kardashian is taking a stab at law by on the California State Bar Law Office Study program. Fortunately, they are not the only examples of Armenians within the city.

Westside Pavillion - One Of The Largest Malls In The Country

Westside Pavilion is one of the major attractions of the city of Los Angeles. It is a major Shopping Mall located in West Los Angeles. It is a huge shopping center, three stories tall. It houses 150 shops, including a massive Macy's. The mall also includes a 12 screen movie theater.

The Westside Pavilion was opened in 1985 and is one of the largest malls in the United States. It makes up almost 750,000 square feet. The very first Aeropostale clothing store in the country opened in this mall in 1987. To say that the center is enormous isn't telling enough.

Much of the mall was renovated in 2000 and made to appear fancier. The mall has been through many ups and downs throughout its history, including some closings. Barnes & Noble left the mall in 2011. In 2015 Nordstrom announced that it would take out its store from the mall in 2017.
