Close in travel to LAX; there are few baseball stadiums older than Dodger. This baseball park is often also known as Chavez Ravine, ends within the Elysian Park neighborhood of Los Angeles. Appropriately, it is now on Vin Scully Drive. Now 55 years old, this stadium is one of the most iconic ones in Major League Baseball’s long history.
Dodger Stadium was built over three years between 1959 and 1962 after the Dodgers came to California in 1957. It was also briefly the Angels’ home while they were known as the Los Angeles Angels from 1962 to 1965. The third oldest stadium in Major League Baseball history end is the largest MLB stadium by seat capacity.
This stadium is seen as 12 no-hitters as well as many World Series, 8 to be exact.
It also hosted several major events, including the 2009 and 2017 World Baseball classics. Also, it hosted an exhibition game during the 1984 Summer Olympics. Dodger Stadium has also hosted several soccer tournaments and even a regular-season hockey game between the Los Angeles Kings and the Anaheim Ducks in 2014.
Dodger Stadium is one of the most recognizable stadiums in the country, often known for its Baseball Legends, including Tommy Lasorda and Vin Scully. It also saw some no-hitters, including June 18, 2014, by Clayton Kershaw against the Rockies. Five home run balls have been hit completely out of the stadium, including one by Willie Stargell.
There has been a lot more than just baseball played at the stadium. In the 2028 Summer Olympics, the stadium will host both baseball and softball. The Beatles played at the stadium in 1966, which turned out to be their second to last show on their last tour. Elton John also played here twice in 1975. Many other musicians also played here, including the Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton, and Bruce Springsteen.

Griffith Park is among the most recognizable parts of the city of Los Angeles. It is in the Los Feliz neighborhood of the town and covers over 4300 Acres. It is one of the largest urban parks in the entire country. This makes it also the second-largest city park in the whole State of California.
The park was created in 1896 and boasted about 10 million visitors every single year. The original part of the park was owned by Griffith J Griffith, who donated much of the land. Despite his lousy reputation after shooting his wife, Griffith wound up funding much of the park’s expansion.
This opening-up happened far after his death in 1919, including a major Amphitheater, called the Greek Theater, which was completed in 1930, and the Griffith Observatory, completed in 1935. Besides, his original gift also allowed the city to expand and purchase other plots of land. Other expansions include over four hundred acres donated by the Sherman company. Unfortunately, this area also was a part of the internment camps for Japanese-Americans.
This is one of the most popular parts of the city and also was a film set for DW Griffith’s major movie Birth of a Nation in 1915. Other films, including flare-up featuring Raquel Welch, were also shot in the park. The observatory is perhaps the most recognizable part of the park and attracts many residents and visitors each year. It is one of the most famous observatories in the country. The Hollywood sign is the number one most recognized part of the city of Los Angeles. Upon the Hollywood Hills, here is a significant icon of American culture, as well as filmmaking. The sign itself has a long history, surprisingly about a century-long, and is instantly known across the United States. It is yet another one of our articles and our ongoing series on the history of Los Angeles.
The original sign, created in 1923, spelled Hollywoodland initially. Unfortunately, today it only spells out Hollywood as the last four letters fell off. The original letters are each spelled out in 44 ft tall white capital letters. The overall structure is about 100 yards long. It was initially intended as an advertisement for local real estate development but remained up. Unfortunately, it was also the site of the 1932 suicide of actress Peg Entwhistle.
It is seen in all sorts of movies and other features of Los Angeles. Much of the sign fell after deterioration. However, it was rebuilt several times, including in the 1940s and the 1970s. It is now fully repaired end was primarily funded through some private donations. The new letters are made of steel supported by steel columns and intended to last forever. It remains a significant sign of the filmmaking industry and is a famous site for actors and more.
We hope that you enjoyed this article in the history of the Hollywood sign and its wider impact on Los Angeles. It is part of our overall feature on the city’s course and the impact of its culture on the United States and beyond. For more information, please send us an email; we look forward to your feedback.

The market has its roots back to 1880 when A.F. Gilmore bought the property around the area– and soon expanded with the 1900s oil boom. However, the first actual sales happened when a series of farmers came together in 1934 and opened up the first grocer’s markets. It was an instant hit, with more people and farmers joining in the fun throughout 1934 and further.
This led to a Fall Festival at the Farmer’s Market that fall. With the iconic clock tower as a major part of the scenery, the market grew and grew further. The 1948 clock tower helped distinguish it and bring in more visitors. These include many Hollywood stars, including Shirley Temple, Eva Gardner, and Marilyn Monroe. Heck, even President Dwight Eisenhower paid a visit.

Little Armenia is one of the most culturally rich parts of Los Angeles. It is a portion of Hollywood and home to many people of Armenian descent. Much of the area is in East Hollywood. This is also a portion of our long series of articles about Los Angeles’s history and its different neighborhoods like Leimert Park.
Unfortunately, much of the history of why there are so many Armenians in the neighborhood is an unhappy one. It often leads back to the Armenian Genocide of the 1910s and 1920s in the former Ottoman Empire. Many Armenians fled from the massacres to take refuge and survive the challenges. Similarly, Koreatown is filled with refugees of the Korean conflict.
These Armenians made up a large proportion of the city and many of the most successful merchants and business owners in the town. On top of this, many Armenians would become involved in different aspects of Los Angeles’s history. This includes bringing in a rich food tradition to the area and allowing for a vast expansion of culture within the city. Armenian Americans make up a significant portion of the most successful parts of the city and its population.

No, the state of Vermont does not have access to the sea all of a sudden. Instead, we are talking about the area around Vermont square in the city of Los Angeles. Altogether, this area is in South Los Angeles. We will profile another part of the city as a portion of our ongoing series of articles regarding Los Angeles and its history.
Vermont Square is about 3 square miles in size. It is relatively small and bordered by Exposition Park in the North and Hyde Park in Leimert Park in the west. Overall, there are about 43,000 people in this area. This makes about 18,000 people per square mile, which is among the highest population densities in the City of Los Angeles but remains a younger part of the city, averaging age 26 for residents.
But half the population is Latino, and that proportion is growing. Blacks make up almost 40% of the population. Overall the median income is under $30,000, which is low for the city and the county. Only about 5.3% of the Residence Inn Azaria achieved a bachelor’s degree or higher, which remains low. But low numbers exist for those with a high school diploma also. Despite this, many significant schools exist within this area, including libraries.

Westside Pavilion remains a significant attraction for the city of Los Angeles. It is a major, colossal Shopping Mall located in West Los Angeles, three stories tall, housing 150 shops, including a massive Macy’s and 12 screen movie theater.
The Westside Pavilion was opened in 1985 and is one of the largest malls in the United States. It makes up almost 750,000 square feet. The very first Aeropostale clothing store in the country opened in this mall in 1987. To say that the center is enormous isn’t telling enough.
Much of the mall was renovated in 2000 and made to appear fancier. The mall has been through many ups and downs throughout its history, including some closings. Barnes & Noble left the mall in 2011. In 2015 Nordstrom announced that it would take out its store from the mall in 2017.
This mall has been a part of the broader Los Angeles culture and in some different films. It was in the music video for the Tom Petty song Free Fallin’. It was also featured in the movie Clueless. With significant issues at the mall, we cannot predict what will happen in the future. Of course, we hope that the mall does very well in the future in that there are many swords and customers to boot.
We hope that this article provides you some insight into another aspect of Los Angeles and its culture. A mall is a part of the culture in many ways, just like other city landmarks. If you have any questions or would like to get involved, please make sure to send us an email.
