All About L.A.’s Famous Streets & Avenues

So Many Famous LA Avenues To Choose From?

Injury Lawyer Los Angeles, Michael EhlineThere are many streets explicitly made for the car in Los Angeles. Some would say L.A. streets are so good that even criminals enjoy them for things like carjackings and even as escape arteries for bank heists, making Los Angeles the car chase capital of the world. And don’t forget about DUI checkpoints and hit-and-run drivers. Unlike many cities back east, the City of Angels was designed around driving the motor vehicle — and it shows. There are so many different examples of streets bearing the hallmarks of fame and transport, as we will see. We’re going to look at some of them and ask you to chime in with your examples.

So which ones did we miss? Email us for more info, or let us know if you have any recommendations for something else on the list.

  • Turnbull Canyon Road makes its way through its scenic namesake canyon.
  • Of course, the list must also include the stretch of the Pacific Coast Highway heading out of the city.

Mulholland – One of the Most Scenic Parts of the City of LA?

Perhaps the road most often thought about when Los Angeles is brought up is Mulholland Drive. No, it’s not named after the former Twins pitcher, if that’s what you are thinking. Instead, it is a scenic ride that takes a person out of the city and into the heights above it. Please keep reading for more info as part of our ongoing series on the history and geography of the greater LA area.

Drive-up on a Sunday Afternoon.

Mulholland Driver includes a large portion of the eastern Santa Monica Mountains. It gains its name from one of the LA area’s chief architects, Wiliam Mulholland. It is featured in many different songs and movies, and one film is directly named after it.

The 21-mile long road is a part of the most scenic drive in the city and meets up with US 101 and the Mulholland Highway. The view is breathtaking, including a significant portion of the town and the San Fernando Valley.

The nearby Mulholland Highway runs for about 50 miles through the Santa Monica Mountains all the way to Highway 1 near Malibu. Like Mulholland Drive, it is one of the most scenic areas in the greater Los Angeles area. The two together form the Mulholland Scenic Corridor. A portion of the area is unpaved to allow for cyclists and pedestrians.

Together, it is easy to understand why and how these two drives became such an integral part of the roadways and cultures of LA.

This is one of our many articles on the history and culture of Los Angeles. Are you from the Mulholland area and have an idea of something that we might add? Drop us a line or send us an email for more info or tell us how we are doing. We appreciate all of our readers’ feedback.

LA Freeway Named for a Governor and Favorite Son?

Ronald Reagan is one of the most transformative figures in California and US history. Reagan is a favorite son of California. He grew up in the state before becoming an actor. He served two terms as an active Governor before his election as President in 1980.

The President played a significant role in the recovery of the American economy and the end of the Cold War. It makes sense that a part of the principal thoroughfare would be named after him.

President Reagan reshaped much of the United States and the world. Much of the biggest impact felt right in his home state of California. He was Governor during many of the most difficult parts of the state’s history and pulled it through to the modern age.

LA’s Well-Traveled and Famous Freeway, to Boot

The part in question is a portion of California State Route 118. The section included was from Moorpark and Lake View Terrace. Originally named the Simi Valley-San Fernando Valley Freeway, it was renamed after the 40th President in 1994, five years after leaving office. Also, it is near the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library. The library is one of the major centers of study about Reagan’s time in office and legacy.

This major part of the freeway represents just a portion of the overall part of Route 118. Route 118 extends almost fifty miles in the greater Los Angeles Area. However, right at heart is the soul of the Gipper.

Did we miss a portion of the Ronald Reagan Freeway that you want to learn more about? Please send us any ideas and suggestions for us to consider. Drop us a line via email, and we’ll take a look. Fun Facts And Warnings For L.A. Drivers

Law enforcement wants to get a clear message: there is no safe place to drink and drive. The practice costs thousands of lives each year. In Los Angeles alone, the city faces hundreds of deaths and injuries annually. It also sees millions of dollars in damage to people’s livelihoods and vehicles.

It’s a nasty habit that should have no mercy of the law. That is why the police cracked down on the practice, and there are several places where it is much more likely that soused drivers will be nabbed.

No Place Is Safe For Drunk Drivers In L.A.?

We take a look at several of these locations around Los Angeles. There are several significant cases where drunk drivers were arrested for driving under the influence. Unfortunately, some only happened after a severe car accident. In the same city, there was a drunk driver checkpoint that captured six DUI arrestees. This was a significant operation and one that was warned to the public before the event. Still, some people decided to drink and drive.

As a matter of fact, according to the Daily News, there were 219 DUI arrests in LA County in the New Year period around January 1, 2016, alone. The state total was over 1,000. One of the areas with the highest arrests is Downtown. There are some factors behind this, including population density. On top of that, there is also a more significant number of alcohol outlets. Furthermore, there are many cars and hit and run accidents related to DUI/DWIs.

These factors combined make up a more substantial reason that DWI and DUI arrests are so high in LA County. Did we miss a place that you’re familiar with? If we did, make sure to send us an email. We’re happy to update you with the feedback.
