Riding an electric bicycle can present its own set of risks. It’s important to wear the appropriate safety gear and travel in a designated bike lane when riding an electric bicycle in San Diego, as a San Diego woman recently learned.
According to authorities, a solo bicycle accident on Friars Road and Morena Boulevard left a 56-year-old lady on life support.
The woman was not wearing a helmet while traveling in the westbound bike lane of 5100 Friars Road sometime before 5:20 p.m. on Tuesday, as reported by the SDPD’s traffic division.
Unfortunately, the biker failed to see an abandoned shopping cart that was left in the bicycle lane she was traveling in and hit it, which sent her flying over the handlebars and landing on her head, according to the City News Service reports by patch editor Ashley and San Diego Police.
The victim was found by onlookers writhing and spitting up blood. Moreover, the authorities reported Wednesday that the woman, whose name was withheld, had a cerebral hemorrhage following the electric bike crash.
Although the cyclist had been traveling in a designated bike lane with her electric bicycle, she was not wearing a helmet, which is why she suffered brain bleed injuries after the crash happened.
The authorities are still investigating the incident that happened on Friars Road and Morena Boulevard that led to the woman’s head injury.
