Possible treatment for Coronavirus

An old drug that has been used for years a way to prevent and treat malaria is being tested as one of the three anti-viral drugs for Coronavirus.
Chloroquine, also known as aralen, is used for preventing and treating malaria and amebiasis, an infection of the intestines caused by a parasite. Chloroquine has been confirmed effective as a Coronavirus cure.
Chloroquine phosphate has been shown to have yielded positive data against the virus associated pneumonia in several clinic trials in China. It is under assessment in more than 100 infected patients at over 10 hospitals in Beijing and Guangong provinces. There are plans for additional studies in Hunan province.
Chloroquine phosphate has been used for more than 70 years and was selected from tens of thousands of existing drugs after several rounds of screening. The results, experts said, showed a certain curative effect and fairly good efficacy.
So far, patients treated with chloroquine needed a shorter time to recover , showed a bigger drop in fever, and had improvement of lung images compared to other groups.
Multinational drugmakers are speeding up the manufacturing and supply of chloroquine phosphate after the old drug was prove effective to combat the Novel Coronavirus and was included in th treatment guidelines by the National Health Commision.
According to one website, a 54-year-old patient in Beijing who was admitted to the hospital four days after having symptoms took the drug for a week and all indicators improved.
Two other clinical trials have been conducted and results are expected back soon. According to the World Health Organization, one trial combines HIV drugs Lopinvir and Ritonavir, and the other is testing the U.S.-based biotech Gilead Sciences’ antiviral Remdesivir.
